A light-hearted moment briefly interrupted Bangladesh‍‍`s parliamentary budget debate on Saturday when a slip of the tongue by Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) lawmaker Andaleeve Rahman drew laughter from members across the House.

While speaking during the discussion on the proposed national budget, Andaleeve began raising issues related to his constituency in Bhola and mistakenly referred to the Speaker as "Hafiz Saheb."

The Deputy Speaker, who was presiding over the sitting at the time, smiled and asked, "Sorry! Who is Hafiz Saheb?"

Realising the mistake, Andaleeve immediately corrected himself.

"Sorry, sorry... Mr Speaker. Thank you. Sorry, so sorry," he said, prompting laughter from lawmakers.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, a BNP lawmaker elected from Bhola-3, was not chairing the session at the time.

The brief exchange brought a rare moment of humour to the House before lawmakers resumed the scheduled debate on the proposed national budget.
